The Assessors Office is responsible for keeping the record ownership on each piece of property current, the compiling of all businesses responsible for their Personal Property and keeping the motor vehicle list up to date.

The focus for this office is economic growth and development and provision of services that support business retention and expansion in the community. The staff assists companies with commercial real estate, business financing, workforce training and other relevant issues including the redevelopment of the Fairfield Hills Campus. The Newtown Housing Rehabilitation Program is managed by this department.

The department consists of the Highway Department, which maintains the road system, the Transfer Station , which disposes of residential and household garbage and also contains our recycling center. The town's curbside recycling program is handled through this department. The town engineer's office is located here as well.

The Registrars office protects the voting rights of all Newtown residents. We maintain on a continuing basis a list of all voters including new voters. We also obtain and train election workers and we insure the proper maintainance of voting machines. We conduct an annual canvass to insure the accuracy of our voting lists.
