TRIAD
Triad: A Concept in Action
Triad is a commitment among the chief of police, The Triad Officer, senior leaders and affiliated organizations. They reduce elder victimization and increase law enforcement services to older persons.
The purpose of a Triad is to develop and implement crime prevention and education programs for older individuals. Activities center on both pre-victimization (preventive) and post-victimization (victim/witness assistance) aspects.
Triad also focuses on reducing fear of crime by identifying misconceptions, educating seniors on criminal activity that affects them, and creating programs to reduce elder crime with information exchange between law enforcement and older persons. (From the National Association of Triads website)
Triad in Newtown is a highly successful program that has benefited from active participation from the Newtown Department of Police Services, Newtown Seniors Center, and community groups. Activities have included ice cream socials at the senior center, Triad kick-off celebration, and educational programs. The Newtown Department of Police Services looks forward to continued success with the Triad program in the future.
