Facilitating the safe and rapid movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic is a main goal of the Newtown Department of Police Services. To aid in the completion of this goal the Newtown Department of Police Services regulary conducts roving traffic patrols, radar speeding enforcement, DWI patrols, and DWI spot checks.
In 2007 the Newtown Department of Police Services issued 2,186 motor vehicle infractions/misdemeanors, 1,606 written warnings, and 1,579 verbal warnings. This resulted in 5,371 self initiated motor vehicle contacts for the year.
