The Newtown Department of Police Services participates in the D.A.R.E. America program. Officer Gladys Pisani is specially trained to present this program to all fifth graders in the Newtown Public School System. Officer Pisani also teaches this program to the fifth graders in St Rose School.
The D.A.R.E. program culminates with a graduation ceremony for all successful participants. This program is designed to help give kids the knowledge they need to avoid substance abuse problems by making them informed citizens. Kids are taught the potential consequences and effects of getting involved with drugs before they get involved with them.
